How Much Does Commercial Grounds Maintenance Cost in Ghana?
If you manage an estate, a corporate campus, a hotel, or an institution in Ghana, “what does it cost to keep the grounds?” is the first question you ask — and the hardest one to get a straight answer to. Almost no landscaping firm in Ghana publishes a single figure. The whole field ends at “contact us for a quote.” This article gives you the honest version: what drives the number, the indicative bands we have seen, and why a real commercial quote always comes from a site visit.
Why Nobody Quotes Grounds Maintenance Over the Phone
Two identical-looking properties can cost very different amounts to maintain. A 2-acre corporate campus that is mostly carpet grass lawn with a few hedges is straightforward. A 2-acre estate with mature trees, flower beds, a water feature, irrigation zones, and a long hedge line is several times the work — the same area, a different contract.
So a credible firm does not quote grounds maintenance off a phone call. It quotes off what the grounds actually contain and how often they need keeping. Anyone who gives you a flat “GH₵X per acre” without seeing the site is guessing.
What actually drives the figure
- Size of the grounds — total area to be kept, and how much of it is lawn versus beds, hedges, and hardscape.
- What the grounds contain — lawns, hedges, trees, flower beds, water features, irrigation, paving — each is a different task at a different frequency.
- Frequency — a guest-grade hotel forecourt kept weekly costs more than a back lot kept monthly.
- The standard held — “tidy” and “always impeccable” are different contracts.
- Access and location — Accra prime, Tema, Kumasi, or Takoradi all factor in.
The Honest Indicative Numbers
Here is the part other firms leave out. There are very few published landscaping rates in Ghana at all, and the ones that exist are single-source and indicative — useful as a sense of scale, not a market quote.
For residential maintenance, a published package ladder runs roughly:
| Tier | Indicative | What it tends to cover |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | from ~GH₵300 / month | mowing, hedge trim, cleanup |
| Standard | from ~GH₵600 / month | + fertilisation, weed control, irrigation checks |
| Premium | from ~GH₵1,200 / month | full-service + seasonal planting + hardscape upkeep |
For new lawn / turfing, an indicative figure of around GH₵15 per square metre installed appears as a single listing.
We want to be clear: both of those are single-source, indicative figures — a reference for scale, not a corroborated market rate, and not a commercial-grounds quote.
Why Commercial and Estate Grounds Are Quote-Only
Commercial, estate, hotel, and institutional grounds are genuinely priced on a site assessment. There is no honest per-acre rate to publish, because the contents and the standard differ on every property. What we can promise is the opposite of a vague retainer: an itemised quote and a clear contract showing exactly what is done, how often, and the standard held — so a facilities or estate manager budgets against a real figure, not a guess.
A redesign or new build — hardscape, irrigation, planting — is quoted separately on the design.
What to Ask For When You Get a Quote
- An itemised scope — not “grounds maintenance,” but the actual tasks and their frequency.
- The standard the contract holds, in writing.
- Reporting — how you will know the work was done.
- One point of contact for the account.
If a quote has those four things, you can budget against it. If it is one line and a number, you cannot.
